Designer Jewellery with Natural Beads

Designing your own jewelry can be extremely rewarding. It is a wonderful feeling to know that the item of jewelry that you have just made is a complete one of kind. However there are a number of decisions that need to be made which are crucial to the outcome of the project. Getting the choice of bead wrong, for instance, can completely alter the nature of the finished item. While the finished effect might be a pleasant surprise, it might also be a disappointment. Here are a few basic tips that can help avoid frustrations.

Choosing Beads

When choosing beads for a jewelry project there are a number of things that need to be considered.

Although we typically think of jewellery as being made from precious metals and gemstones, over the centuries it has been made from a variety of materials such as cloth, wood, shells, rocks and stone. In fact man has been very ingenious and artistic in creating jewellery from just about anything and in many different styles from the plain and simple to the highly elaborate.

Items of jewellery have also been adopted as potent symbols and even worn to ward off evil spirits or to help overcome enemies in battle.

Examples of jewellery being worn other than for adornment, are necklaces such as the cross or crucifixes worn by Christians as potent religious symbols. Other religious types of necklaces are pendants known as amulets, which are figures or symbols of varying shapes and sizes, which are hung on a chain round the neck.

Necklaces called lockets, which are usually heart shaped are worn as a symbol of love and open up to reveal a picture or lock of hair from a cherished one.

Necklaces and pendants are both worn around the neck but a pendant usually means a hanging object although it can be hanging from a neck chain or an earring. A choker is also a form of necklace but is worn high around the neck and can also have a pendant hanging from it.

Perhaps the most bizarre form of necklaces are those worn by the Pa Dong Long Neck people who are part of the Karen tribal group that live along the border between Thailand and Burma. From the age of 6 years old, brass rings are snapped around the necks of young girls, a few every year, up to a limit of 20 rings although there is a woman on record as having 28 around her neck. As they progress from childhood to womanhood, their necks appear to elongate although apparently what really happens is that the weight of the rings crushes the womens collarbones giving the illusion of a very long neck.

It is said that these women only remove the brass rings on their wedding night with a long drawn out process involved, which involves much neck washing. As brass often tends to discolour the skin one can imagine that there may be a rather nasty green mess under those rings. After the wedding night, the rings are replaced and must remain in place for life, as the womens neck muscles are now no longer strong enough to support the length of the neck and the weight of the head on their own.

Fashion Beaded Necklaces Latest Trend

Beaded necklaces seem to be the going thing lately. You see lots of women wearing them. Political candidates, news anchors etc. They look very elegant and tasteful. I personally think they look more elegant than plain gold necklaces. They add color, style and fashion to any outfit.

You can buy or make them from a variety of colored beads and or gems. To fit your own unique taste and style. They come in a variety of sizes and prices. They are made from fake pearls to genuine pearls etc. So they are affordable to everyone.

They also can be made with base metal clasps, 14k gold clasps or sterling silver clasps. They can be made with large beads or small beads. Also they can be one strand of beads or more.
Beaded necklaces are just simply beautifult. I think they are very classy and elegant. The fact they come in a variety of colors, styles, and prices just makes them more of a great fashion piece.

Purchasing Beaded Wholesale Jewelry

When purchasing wholesale jewelry beads you must use care. You don’t want to end up with beads that aren’t worth anything to you! Selecting beads takes a lot of thought – we aren’t talking about plastic beads that children use to make jewelry. We are talking about quality beads used to make grown up jewelry!Avoid cheap plastic beads. This may be suitable for some pieces, but it isn’t very durable – or very pretty. Instead, buy glass beads or Lucite beads. These are not only durable, they are very shiny and pretty. They do not have the ‘cloudy’ look of plastic beads. Inspect the beads for imperfections if possible. Beads that are ‘lopsided’ won’t do. Beads that are chipped, broken, or scratched are useless. Don’t purchase these beads no matter how cheap they are! Most jewelry wholesale Beads are sold in bulk. In this case, you probably won’t have the opportunity to inspect the beads, so ask about the exchange policy. Will you be able to exchange the beads that are less than perfect? Depending on how the beads are packaged and sold, and the policy of the business selling the jewelry wholesale beads, this may not be possible.
